Sydney Round 2: (4) Petrova vs Ivanovic
Sydney, January 8, 2007.
Nadia's first opponent at the Sydney Medibank International will be Ana Ivanovic of Serbia. Petrova and Ivanovic have met on three previous occasions with Petrova taking the lead 2-1. Ana Ivanovic is definitely a good player, but she tends to crack under pressure. For Nadia to come out victorious in this match-up, she has got to come out firing from the first point. Ivanovic has a HUGE forehand, so it imperative for Nadia to attack the backhand as much as possible. It will be very important for Nadia to hold on her service games because Ivanovic's serve is also a big weapon. When there are opportunities for Nadia to take the lead, Nadia must not hesitate to convert. One big weakness in Ivanovic's game is her movement, if Nadia can move her from side to side as much as possible, Ivanovic will eventually tire.
Fortunately for Nadia, she is on a confidence high after winning Russia's first Hopman Cup last week. With every match that Nadia played, she just simply got better and better. She has had enough time to rest, so she should win this match in straight sets. 6-3 6-4.
With the draw down to the final 16, the competition is about to get much tougher.
